Backflow Testing & Maintenance

Cross connections are direct or indirect physical connections of drinking and non-drinking water. Any liquid has the potential to flow backwards given the right conditions.

Water can become contaminated in many different situations. A few examples of how water can become cross-contaminated include:

• A garden hose left in the swimming pool with harmful chemicals
• Water from rainwater tanks entering the mains supply
• Recycled water systems crossing over with other pipework
• A blocked toilet with an accompanying bidet

There are plenty more situations where backflow can occur. We’ll be able to identify any potential backflow issues and supply a solution to resolve them.

At worst, backflow can cause death. Any property that has drinking water entering it is classified with a degree of seriousness of the backflow contamination risk known as the Hazard Rating.

• High Hazard is any condition in the water supply that can cause death.
• Medium Hazard is any condition in the water supply that can endanger health.
• Low Hazard is any condition in the water supply that can be a nuisance.

Backflow prevention devices prevent reverse water flow from potentially polluted sources. These need to be installed by a professional in compliance with Australian Standards.
